Gloucester Guildhall is looking for a new Duty Manager to join the Visitor Experience team to deliver its jam-packed programme of events.

Right in the heart of the city, Gloucester Guildhall is a vibrant venue, home to an impressive programme of music, comedy, film and theatre. As well as our 400-capacity main hall, we have a beautiful recently refurbished cinema, multiple meeting and conference spaces and a Bar and Kitchen – all housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building.

As a duty manager, you will take the lead role and be responsible for the safe delivery of our varied events programme. When on shift, you will be expected to lead/direct the on-site team ensuring that all visitors to the venue receive exceptional service and that all customers walk away with positive memories of their time at Gloucester Guildhall.

Each shift will be different. You could be moving equipment and furniture in preparation for a room hire, you will assist bands with their arrival to the venue, be responsible for all aspects of health and safety and work backstage using your own and others specialist technical knowledge to make sure everything is fully set up and ready to go - as well as being there to reset the site in preparation for the next event. We have a separate bar team, but whilst on site, you will oversee the safe sale of alcohol.

We are looking for someone with experience in managing events, ideally within a live events venue. Top quality customer service is an absolute must – we pride ourselves in delivering memorable experiences. You must be confident in managing large groups of customers and be able to think on your feet, remain calm, positive, and professional when working under pressure.

You will be work under the direction of the venue Team Leader. When on shift you will be responsible for providing operational direction and challenge to your team therefore you will have leadership experience that you can bring to the role. You will be able to communicate confidently and provide the necessary direction to ensure that the event/shift runs without any issues. You will have thorough knowledge of health and safety in the events industry and will be able to apply this when running our events.

This role is one of several generic roles within Gloucester City Council therefore you may be asked to work from another cultural venue including Blackfriars Priory and the Museum of Gloucester in supporting their programme – a great opportunity to gain new experiences.

You will also be on an annualised hours contract. The events/cultural industry is demand led but generally, the venue will open at 8:30am and will not close until the early hours on event nights. We ask for flexibility from the role, but we can also be flexible should you have any other commitments.
