Growth and delivery

The City Growth and Delivery team aims to build an attractive place that is centred upon Gloucester’s first-class heritage, creating a successful place in which people want to live, work and visit.

Our teams

There are several teams within the department:

  • Planning - includes development management, planning policy, and enforcement
  • Heritage and conservation
  • Economic development and regeneration
  • Strategic housing

Planning

Planning produce the strategic plans for the city, guiding its development and growth over decades to come. It also receives and considers planning applications submitted by the public and businesses, and assesses new developments within the city. The council’s Enforcement Officer ensures that development that has taken place has planning consent.

Heritage and conservation

This team works with the planning team to ensure that the city’s heritage assets are protected and enhanced. We use our archaeologist to protect the city’s extensive historic assets, and to make sure that new developments do not damage them.

Economic development

The economic development team encourages investment into the city and supports local businesses to deliver sustainable economic growth and regeneration, including jobs for local residents.

Strategic housing

The team work closely with housing developers to make sure there's enough suitable housing to meet the needs of all of the city’s residents.

What’s it like working here?
Here’s what a few of our team members have to say about working for us.

"I love the team I work with. They’re all lovely professional people, who are easy to get on with and do a great job. I love the built heritage of the city. It’s so varied and interesting. Working with it is a real privilege".

"I work with a really friendly, motivated and professional team – Gloucester for me is a fascinating place to work. You’ve got to be able to organise and manage your own time, communicate clearly and consistently and manage multiple projects at once".

"Gloucester City Council is a caring employer that really values what I bring to the organisation. It’s not a big organisation so I really feel part of a bigger team. I have an interesting and varied workload and feel I make a genuine difference to the success of the City".
