Policy and governance

The Policy and Governance service is made up of three areas, each focused on supporting the work of all council departments and providing an efficient and friendly service for external customers.

Our teams

There are several teams within the department:

  • Democratic and electoral services
  • Business support
  • Performance and governance

Democratic and electoral services

This team supports the council’s 39 elected councillors, and the committees and bodies responsible for making decisions about the services provided to residents. The team also maintains the electoral register and organises local and national elections and referendums taking place within Gloucester.

Business support

They take on a variety of technical and admin work to support key council services, such as planning and licensing, in addition to overseeing a number of statutory services, including Freedom of Information requests and Local Land Charges. It’s a busy multi-skilled team focused on providing a high standard of service to internal and external customers.

Performance and governance

This aspect of the service supports Gloucester City Council by overseeing policy development, performance and project management to ensure that the council provides quality, value for money services and achieves its ambitions for the city and its residents.
