About the Role & Team
Are you an experienced highways professional ready to lead and shape the future of structural maintenance across Gloucestershire?
We are looking for a Structural Maintenance Team Leader to take strategic responsibility for the council’s structural maintenance function. In this key leadership role, you will guide the development of our structural maintenance strategy, forward programmes and policies to ensure our carriageway and footway assets are maintained effectively for our communities.
Working as part of the highways leadership team, you’ll manage a skilled team, oversee the delivery of annual maintenance programmes, and lead on planning, design, procurement and contract management. You will also play a central role in working with elected members, managing capital budgets, and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to the public.
This is a high-impact role where you will influence long-term asset management while ensuring high standards of delivery and customer focus.
About You
You will be a strong leader with proven experience managing teams and delivering highway construction or maintenance programmes. You’ll bring in-depth technical knowledge of carriageway and footway structural maintenance, including design standards, materials and best practice.
You should be confident working at a strategic level, with experience in planning, budgeting and programme management, alongside the ability to manage contracts and undertake performance and quality audits.
With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you’ll be able to build relationships across teams, partners and stakeholders, and handle complex or sensitive issues with confidence. A degree in a relevant engineering discipline and professional accreditation (or working towards this) are essential.
