About apprenticeships at Gloucestershire County Council

Our apprentices are here to shape careers and offer on-the-job experience. As an apprentice you’ll do the same work as your colleagues in a diverse and professional environment, but you’ll also get extra time and support to help you progress your professional education.

Why an apprenticeship with Gloucestershire County Council?

Gloucestershire County Council has thousands of both frontline and back office staff. All need various kinds of skills and support to do their jobs: from education to social care, and from highways to libraries. As an apprentice, you’ll be based in one of our dedicated departments and your role will depend on the team you join.

Learning and development opportunities

You’ll get everything you need to thrive and grow. Study time is factored in to your working week, so you can achieve your qualification and undertake wider learning and development opportunities. The formal qualification is only part of the story; we take a more rounded approach to apprenticeships. As well as self-study and e-learning, you’ll have 1:1 coaching, a designated mentor to support you at work, and technical skills training. Not to mention the invaluable experience of working towards helping the people of Gloucestershire. You will be part of a wider community of apprentices all over the organisation with second and third year colleagues who are all working towards achieving their apprenticeship.

How to apply

You can register and apply online here

Registering and applying online is a great opportunity to tell us about yourself and what you can bring to the organisation. We understand that the decision to leave school or change career is a big step, so at this point we want to ask you a few further questions to get a better understanding of why you’d like to join us and what you think you can bring to the role. It’s worth spending some time on this and answering honestly, as it is our first indication of whether we’ll be a good fit for each other.

Once the vacancy has closed, the recruiting manager will assess the applicants and at this stage you will either be successful to move forward to the next stage or informed that you have not been successful at this time. Please do not be disheartened if you have not been successful as there are always future opportunities.

If you are successful and called for interview, you will be informed of date, time and location of the interview. You will then have the opportunity to tell us about why you wish to become part of Gloucestershire County Council and answer our questions throughout. Remember this is also an opportunity to interview us to make sure we are right for you.
