This is a great time to join Gloucestershire County Council, as our Children’s Residential Services continue an exciting journey of development and improvement. We are committed to working together to ‘Make a Difference’ to the lives of the children and young people we support, helping them achieve positive outcomes and reach their full potential.

We place a high premium on diversity and inclusion, as well as on health and wellbeing and we offer a flexible working scheme which is based on business need.  We offer Continued Professional Development and will support you to develop your skills and career prospects within Children’s Services.

 About the Team and Role

We have an opportunity for an experienced Team Administrator/ Receptionist to join us on a full time, permanent basis in Children’s Social Care.  This post sits within our Residential Services, and the successful candidate will join our growing team across the Children’s Residential Services.

The post is primarily based at Southfields in Stroud.  Southfields consists of 19 self-contained units providing supported accommodation for young people and care leavers aged 16 – 25.  We are looking to recruit a full-time administrator to support the Registered Manager and team of Social Care practitioners.  You will be the first point of contact for the home and be responsible for maintaining accurate records, supporting financial transactions and liaising with property and facilities management.

About You

We are looking for someone with experience of working in a confidential, public-facing environment, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and manage their workload effectively to meet deadlines.

As a Team Administrator/Receptionist within a children’s residential setting, you will often be the first point of contact and play a key role in creating a welcoming, calm and professional environment for children, young people, staff and visitors. You will need to be approachable, emotionally intelligent and able to communicate sensitively and appropriately, recognising the needs of vulnerable young people.

The role requires resilience and the ability to remain calm, focused and professional in a busy and sometimes unpredictable environment, maintaining clear boundaries while responding to a range of situations with confidence and empathy.

We are seeking applicants with excellent IT and communication skills, a flexible approach, and strong organisational ability.

If you feel this role is right for you, we look forward to hearing from you — tell us why you are perfect for this role and what you will bring to our team.

About Us

In return we will offer you:

  • Regular formal and informal support.
  • Safe, supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision.
  • Access to relevant training and career progression.
  • Annual leave of 25.5 days up to 30.5 days after 5 years employment.
  • The opportunity to purchase additional annual leave up to a maximum of 10 days.
  • Family friendly employer offering benefits to support you and your family.
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Staff discount scheme that offers access to great savings including discounts with major supermarket chains and high street retailers.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone.
  • An in-house Occupational Health service.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Links to employee networks such as Prism (LGBT+) network and the Young Employees Network.
  • Gloucestershire Salary Sacrifice Green Car Scheme (T&C's apply).

Working in Children’s Social Care does require an applicant who can be proactive or responsive to changing demands and resilient to some of the tough emotional content of the role. However, it is also a role that can bring great reward and job satisfaction.
