Gloucestershire’s vision is “to give every child the best possible chance of a remarkable life, especially those children who are disadvantaged and vulnerable.”
We have ambitious improvement and transformation plans to create the optimum conditions within which our staff can make a real difference and improve outcomes for children.
We are a local authority adopting and training all colleagues in systemic social work practice. If you would like to join an authority that takes a relational approach to working with families and focuses on what needs to change in the system around a child and family to enable children to thrive, then consider a role with GCC.
•Fundamentally repositions the relationship between the Local Authority in the form of the allocated social worker, and the family: families are worked with rather than done to
•Has a liberating effect for families and practitioners: families are no longer pathologised, and practitioners are free from the burden of trying to urge a family to change,
•It supports the idea that there are multiple ways of working with families to make change, and the theory of change is explicit and articulated.
Reward & Support:
In return for your hard work, we offer a generous pay and reward programme including:
- £4,000 Welcome Payment*
- £2,000 Retention Payment*
- Up to £8,000 Relocation Package

We also offer all children’s social care staff a clearly defined career pathway with support and encouragement from management for individuals to fulfil their potential.
The Senior Social Worker salary is between £37,261 and £42,503 subject to experience.
Our Vision:
Committed to building the best, our Children’s Services are looking for high calibre social workers with a track record of excellence, commitment and delivery to the highest standards, securing the best outcomes for the children and young people with whom they work.
Your Role:
The Emergency Duty Team is a small bespoke service that responds to emergencies out of hours.
Your role will involve working within a small and supportive team of Senior Social Workers where you will be prioritising effectively and making sound judgements in a variety of challenging situations. The Emergency Duty Team works closely with other agencies that also work out of hours both in the voluntary and statutory sectors. This position offers the opportunity to broaden your skillset and experience further. You will work to a rolling rota which includes weekend and night work, you will also have two weeks off in every seven weeks.
Whilst there is management support 24/7, overnight shifts require skill and experience and ability to work autonomously at times, therefore it is a requirement that you have a minimum of three years’ post qualifying experience of front-line work with children and families or adult care services. You will need to be suitably experienced and confident in order to make decisions on emergency situations out of hours. As well as your experience as a frontline social worker, there are some things we require of you to be successfully appointed to this post:
- Social Work England registration
- A recognised qualification in Social Work
- To have passed your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE)
- A full driving licence and willingness to drive
- DBS clearance
