A fantastic opportunity has arisen in our Gloucestershire Youth Justice Service (YJS) for a Case Responsible Officer to join our team.

We believe that every child deserves the best possible service so that they can achieve their potential and enjoy a life in which they are healthy, resilient, successful, and connected within communities and environments that support and nurture. We remain ambitious and want to: prevent children entering the youth justice system, to achieve desistance for children within the system, and to stop every child entering custody who doesn’t need to be there. Most importantly, we want a system that is fair and inclusive, one that reduces social disadvantage and racial disparity.

As a multi-disciplinary service, within the county’s youth support offer, the YJS endeavours to deliver high-quality support to children through the operationalisation of a ‘Child First Approach’, one that recognises the stories, needs and unique strengths of the children we work with, and provides interventions that are constructive, future-focused, empowering children to move forward with a positive identity.

The ideal candidate will have:

•       Graduate or equivalent professional qualification e.g. criminal justice, social care, probation.

•       At least 2 years practice experience of working with vulnerable children and young people, preferably within a youth justice setting.

•       Knowledge and understanding of the youth justice system, and the complex issues that affect children and young people within the youth justice system.

•       Recent experience of managing a caseload of children and young people- undertaking assessments of risk and need, developing plans, and delivering interventions that effect positive change and manage risk.

•       Knowledge and experience of managing out of court disposals and statutory court orders.

•       Excellent skills in the preparation and delivery of verbal and written reports, preferably with experience of working in Court.

•       A full driving licence and willingness to drive as part of the role.

•       Enhanced DBS

Gloucestershire County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people or vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We want to be an employer of choice, attracting and retaining excellent people to work for us, so that we can best serve all of Gloucestershire’s diverse communities.  Our promise to you is that we will provide an inclusive and supportive working environment that enables you to bring your whole self to work and realise your full potential.

It is a legal requirement, under the Immigration Act 2016, that anyone appointed to a ‘customer facing role’ must be able to demonstrate an ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in fluent English.
