About the team

We are seeking an additional Transport Engineer to join our busy contracted Transport Team with the management of the Council’s procured transport contracts, and to carry out onsite and kerbside transport enforcement checks.  The majority of the vehicle inspections take place on school premises, but roadside and depot inspections also take place.  The team is established and has a proven track record of successfully managing its contracted transport contracts.   

 

About the role

A ‘can do’ attitude is essential and the ability to work under pressure and prioritise your workload to meet deadlines in a busy team environment. The post holder will be required to begin work around 07:15-07:30 each morning and travel to educational establishments within Gloucestershire and neighbouring counties.  The post holder will need to be physically able to inspect vehicles, this does involve kneeling and laying down at the side of vehicles, inspecting tyres, CV joints and suspensions.

 

About you

The successful candidate will need to have a technical knowledge of goods and passenger carrying vehicles, a knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation & Construction.  The post holder will be required to keep up to date with transport legislation and licencing types.  A knowledge of PSV (passenger service vehicles) would be advantageous.  

 

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Certificate of Professional Competence if they do not currently have one.  

 

  • Be computer literate (Outlook, Excel & Word)
  • Be in possession of a full UK driving licence  
  • Have completed an appropriate apprenticeship in vehicle maintenance
  • Have relevant vehicle inspection experience to MOT standard.
