About the Team & Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Archivist to join us at Gloucestershire Archives, helping staff to deliver the key areas of our service while learning core professional skills.
We need you to welcome all visitors to our site at the Gloucestershire Heritage Hub. You will provide information about available resources, register new customers wishing to access the research room, oversee the use of original documents, fetch and return items from the strongrooms and also help to accession, appraise, catalogue and package documents, in both analogue and digital formats. You will be required to follow all operational processes and procedures required in the delivery of activities and resources that make archives accessible to all and should demonstrate a commitment to continuing your studies to become a fully qualified archivist upon completion of this fixed term post.
About You
To be successful you will need to have an awareness of and enjoy providing excellent customer service, be a good team worker and communicator, have a competent knowledge of ICT skills and the confidence to learn new applications as required. You should also understand the principles of confidentiality and have an interest in information legislation and its relevance to archive work. You will need to lift boxes and handle records using safe lifting and handling techniques as document production is a required function of this role.
