Would you like to work in a role which is both meaningful and rewarding, where you really feel that you make a difference?  Do you constantly look for ways to improve the way you work and enhance the service that you deliver?  If so, this is the perfect role for you.

This is a great time to join Gloucestershire County Council, as Children’s Social Care is on an exciting journey, which focuses our approach into being more creative, strengths-based and person-centred, to ensure that we work together to ‘Make a Difference’ to our local communities.

We are an agile working organisation with a combination of office-based working and working from home (essential equipment is provided).  We place a high premium on diversity and inclusion, as well as on health and wellbeing and we offer a flexible working scheme which is based on business need.  We offer Continued Professional Development and will support you to develop your skills and career prospects within Children’s Services.

 About the Team and Role

We have an opportunity for an experienced administrator to join us on a part time, fixed term basis with the Front Door Business Support Team in Children’s Social Care.  The role sits within the Emergency Duty Team.

The Emergency Duty Team is a small countywide team, comprising of one Team Manager and seven Senior Social Workers who work an out of hours rota. We have two social workers on shift every weekday evening and day and night shifts at the weekend.  The principal responsibility of the Emergency Duty Team is to respond to out of hours referrals where intervention from the local authority is required to safeguard a vulnerable child or adult, and where it would not be safe, appropriate, or lawful to delay that intervention until the next working day.

The team is currently based at Shire Hall in central Gloucester but will be moving to Waterwells, Quedgeley, Gloucester during the early part of 2026.

The role of the administrator is to provide daytime support with finance processes, data tracking, general administration and to link in with other day time service providers who are not accessible to the Emergency Duty Team out of hours.  There is flexibility around the actual hours worked but they are to be over five short days with one 5.30 p.m. finish per week.

About You

We are looking for an administrator who has an understanding of working in a confidential office environment and, as the role includes finance and data processes, has good attention to detail.  You will have strong IT and communication skills and be able to demonstrate a flexible approach with an ability to manage your workload to meet deadlines.  The nature of the work is handling highly sensitive information which can sometimes be distressing so resilience is also key to this role.  If you are proactive and enjoy working within a wider team to provide support to colleagues to meet targets and deadlines then we look forward to hearing from you.  Why are you perfect for this role and what will you bring to our team?

About Us

In return we will offer you:

  • Regular formal and informal support.
  • Safe, supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision.
  • Access to relevant training and career progression.
  • Annual leave of 25.5 days (pro rata) up to 30.5 days (pro rata) after 5 years employment.
  • The opportunity to purchase additional annual leave up to a maximum of 10 days (pro rata).
  • Family friendly employer offering benefits to support you and your family.
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Staff discount scheme that offers access to great savings including discounts with major supermarket chains and high street retailers.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone.
  • An in-house Occupational Health service.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Links to employee networks such as Prism (LGBT+) network and the Young Employees Network.
  • Gloucestershire Salary Sacrifice Green Car Scheme (T&C's apply).

Working in Children’s Social Care does require an applicant who can be proactive or responsive to changing demands and resilient to some of the tough emotional content of the role. However, it is also a role that can bring great reward and job satisfaction.
