Termporary Maths Teacher required - September to December 2025
About the Role
Gloucestershire Hospital Education Service (GHES) is looking for an outstanding teacher of Maths to join their existing teaching team, starting September 2025. This is a temporary position for the Autumn term to support with staffing.
Throughout Gloucestershire, for students who are too unwell to attend their own school, GHES provides short term education, supporting their reintegration to mainstream schools when they are well enough.
If you have never considered teaching in Alternative Education this may be the opportunity you are looking for to apply your teaching skills on an individual or small group basis, and being able to make a difference to every child you work with. This is a hugely rewarding role and the successful candidate would find themselves working in a team of highly motivated and creative teachers. Most teaching for maths is at KS4, delivered online in small groups - any candidate would be expected to embrace the use of technology and online learning for this teaching role regardless of the age of the student.
During the year our student numbers rise and fall, so the successful candidate needs to be flexible with working patterns within a school day, and the ability to deal well with students flowing in and out of groups or joining at any point during a school term. We serve the county of Gloucestershire, and students can be located anywhere within that. Therefore, it is essential that candidates hold a full driving licence and have use of a car.
About you
We are looking for a teacher who:
- Plans and delivers engaging and motivating lessons to support children who are ill, have very low self-esteem and can re-kindle a love of learning maths
- Is confident in making bespoke adaptations to meet additional needs including the use of alternative communication methods and visual teaching methods
- Takes pride in their work and thrives in a busy, constantly changing environment
- Is flexible and adaptable in the moment
- Demonstrate an ability to provide a learning environment to support the needs of all learners, especially our neuro-diverse children and those with SEND
- Has excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with children, parents / carers, staff at GHES, and professionals in education
- Has a firm belief that a medical condition or an additional need should not stop a child fulfilling their full potential is essential
About Us
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the hospital education team. You can be confident of joining a highly professional, passionate, supportive and very experienced team of teachers, pastoral and administrative team working tirelessly to ensure the best outcomes can be achieved for every individual despite the health barriers they may be facing.
If you are an outstanding maths teacher with excellent knowledge and experience of SEND, are looking to apply your teaching skills and experience in a very different setting, have a great deal of empathy and commitment to making a difference to every child you work with, then please get in touch to find out more information.
We strongly recommend you visit or have an informal conversation on the phone with us prior to making an application as we look very different from a mainstream school environment.
For further information or to arrange to visit, please contact us: ghes@gloucestershire.gov.uk or phone 01242 532363.
