About The Team & Role

Gloucestershire Employment and Skills Hub provides a central source of information and support for residents and businesses.  The aim is to help residents access learning and work opportunities, as well help employers get the right people, with the right skills, in the right roles.  We are a team of dedicated professionals who thrive on helping people to achieve their learning and employment aspirations.

The Strategic Employment Support role is to help develop sustainable support for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (RASS) to move into and retain volunteering and employment opportunities. The postholder will be managing a team of two staff and working with other Gloucestershire County Council teams and external organisations to increase the range and number of ‘refugee-friendly’ employers in Gloucestershire with volunteering and employment opportunities.

About You

You must have excellent communication skills which will allow for you to develop a range of close links with partnership organisations.  You will have experience managing staff, working in a strategic role or environment and working with people who have barriers to accessing employment opportunities, particularly refugees or asylum seekers and employers.

Your knowledge and skills will include the ability to plan strategically, an awareness of recruitment and selection processes used by employers which present challenges and you will have language skills or the ability to use translation apps and tools.

If you meet the criteria and are enthusiastic, able to work on your own initiative and are innovative and creative then apply today.  This is a fantastic opportunity to positively contribute to maximising independence of refugees and asylum seekers in the community and increasing the range and number of employment opportunities with employers. We offer a supportive, well-established team environment and regular ongoing training and support.

About Us

For all your hard work, you will receive the following:

  • 25.5 days annual leave rising to 30.5 days after 5 years’ service, plus bank holidays
  • Membership of a Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Discounts at a number of major supermarket chains and high street retailers
  • Safe, supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision and informal support
  • Access to mandatory training
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Links to employee networks such as Prism (LGBT+) network and the Young Employees Network
