About the Team & Role

Come and work for a rewarding organisation in our busy team at Gloucestershire Registration Service. We have 20 Registration Officers, in a department of almost 50 staff and managers. Registration appointments are carried out face-to-face, so we work in locations all around the county. We need to frequently travel in the course of our work including sometimes at very short notice. This is an office based position.

Registration Officers interact with the public every day. Your role will involve registering births, deaths, still-births, marriages, and civil partnerships. You will be working in a highly time pressured environment and will need to confidently use a variety of computer programs. At times you will officiate at ceremonies including marriage, civil partnership, and citizenship. You will have the opportunity to help people at some of their happiest and saddest times and be part of history in the making through your work in registering life events.

About You

You have exceptional interpersonal skills and the enthusiasm and empathy to work with a diverse range of customers. You are articulate and resilient. You possess excellent organisational skills to enable you to prioritise workloads and ensure service levels are maintained. You have a high level of confidence in ICT and the MS suite of programs, preferably including experience with SharePoint. You have great attention to detail and accuracy, including when handwriting. The ability to travel across the county is essential.

No previous experience or qualifications in civil registration are required as full training will be given during the first two years in the role. There are opportunities to work towards a nationally accredited qualification in Registration.

About Us

In return we will offer you:

  • Regular formal and informal support.
  • Safe, supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision.
  • Access to relevant training and career progression.
  • Annual leave of 25.5 days (pro rata) up to 30.5 days (pro rata) after 5 years employment.
