About The Team and The Role
It’s an exciting time to be part of Gloucestershire County Council. We’re looking ahead and finding new ways to build a county that’s innovative, skilled, prosperous, inclusive, healthy, sustainable, resilient and a magnet for growth. From improved transport links to better internet connectivity, we’re making Gloucestershire a great county to live, work and visit.
To help realise our ambitions, we’re looking for a Planning Officer to join us in the Transport Planning team, with the opportunity to progress through to Senior Planning Officer level. At GCC, you’ll benefit from a supportive, inclusive environment, where you’ll be encouraged to shine and make the most of your unique talents. We’re serious about building the workforce of tomorrow so we’ll invest in your skills and empower you to progress.
As our Planning Officer/Senior Planning Officer, you’ll make an impact as you support the Principal Planning Officer and Transport Planning Team Manager across various activities to develop planning and transport policies and strategies, and support compliance.
You’ll provide valuable input to the Local Transport Plan, monitor its delivery, support the development of District Local Plans and prepare reports for Members, Senior Management and Government. You’ll also develop and implement specific transport policies in partnership with relevant departments, as well as other local authorities, agencies, consultants, and contractors.
About you
We’re looking for someone who brings political awareness and holds either a qualification or the equivalent experience in Transport Planning, Planning Policy, or a related subject. As a strategic thinker, you’re able to handle complex work. You have good presentation and report writing skills with the ability to meet deadlines. In addition, you have some knowledge of relevant planning legislation and policies at national, regional, and local level.
To be successful in your application, it’s important that you bring a good understanding or willingness to learn about planning processes and researching and analysing information. You also have some knowledge and willingness to learn about sustainable transport policies and best practice. As your work may involve some travel across the county, it’s preferable that you hold a full, valid driving licence.
