Are you ready to lead a team that transforms inclusive education across Gloucestershire?Gloucestershire County Council is seeking a passionate and visionary leader to take on the role of Head of Advisory Teaching within our Education Directorate.

 

About the Team and Role

 

As part of the Specialist Teaching and Educational Psychology Service (STEPS), the Head of Advisory Teaching holds a key leadership position within the local authority. The role involves overseeing a team of advisory teachers who provide specialist support to schools, with a strong focus on special educational needs (SEN) and inclusion.

 

The aim is to improve teaching and learning outcomes for children and young people across Gloucestershire.Reporting to the Head of STEPS, the postholder will play a central role in guiding the wider STEPS service, with responsibility for the Advisory Teaching Service. The role includes strategic leadership of the Specialist Teaching and Educational Psychology Service, driving forward plans that enhance educational support and outcomes.

 

It also involves managing a team of advisory teachers and sensory impairment specialists, ensuring their work is impactful and aligned with service goals.Collaboration is a key aspect of the role, requiring close working relationships with schools, parents, local agencies, and professionals to deliver joined-up support. The Head of Advisory Teaching will oversee the delivery of specialist advice and training to school staff, ensuring high-quality SEN and inclusion support.

 

A strong emphasis is placed on promoting inclusive practices and cultures within educational settings, ensuring all children and young people have access to quality provision. The role also carries responsibility for quality assurance, ensuring services are tailored, effective, and meet high standards.

 

About You

 

We are looking for a flexible, creative, and solution-focused qualified teacher with leadership and management experience to join our team. You will be eager to apply your knowledge of education, SEN, and leadership to create meaningful change and support positive outcomes for young people and their families.

 

You will understand the importance of high-quality SEN casework but also recognise the broader potential of advisory teaching to influence practice and outcomes. Your enthusiasm for the role of the Advisory Teaching Service will be matched by your passion for effective pedagogical models and positive approaches to child development.

 

You will be keen to apply systems thinking and child development knowledge at a strategic level, and through workforce development, helping to shape the future of inclusive education in Gloucestershire.
