About the Team & Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Officer to join the Investment and Accounting Team, assisting in the provision of financial and investment services within the Gloucestershire Pension Fund. The team provide effective financial services to the Pension Fund, ensuring the accurate accounting of both the receipt of pension contributions and payment of benefits made to and from its members and employers. This is in addition to the responsible management of the Fund’s operational cashflows and its investment portfolio, which currently totals £3.9bn.

 

As part of this role, you will be mainly focussed on activities such as:-

 

  • Financial Accuracy – Reconcile bank transactions and ensure smooth transfer of data into our SAP financial accounting system.
  • Contribution Management - Check and record monthly employer returns, resolve queries, and maintain strong relationships with employers and payroll providers.
  • Governance & Compliance - Assist in maintaining accurate financial information that will assist effective management decision making and comply with statutory regulations and good governance arrangements.
  • Payments & Debt Recovery - Assist in the prompt payment of invoices received within the Fund from external partners, together with the raising of invoices from the Fund to employers, and recharging costs of services provided.
  • Reporting & Returns - Assist with statutory financial returns and provide timely accurate information for management and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Investment Oversight - Assist in the effective monitoring and tracking of the Fund’s investment portfolio and provide appropriate financial information as required, and assist in the tracking ESG metrics, including carbon footprint reporting, to help the Fund achieve our sustainability goals.  

 

As part of the Fund’s commitment to ongoing staff development, career progression from grade 6 to grades 7 and 8 is available within this role upon satisfactory completion of the required performance and qualification criteria.

 

About You

To be successful you will have:-

 

  • A full accounting technician qualification or part qualified AAT (or equivalent) but is actively seeking to be fully qualified.
  • An attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent IT skills, being a competent user of Microsoft excel (i.e.- v-lookups/pivots/sumifs)
  • A positive can-do attitude with an appetite to learn.
  • A friendly approach to collaborative working with the ability to work independently.
