About the team and role 

 

Gloucestershire County Council’s waste team, dedicated to following the waste hierarchy (reduce, reuse, recycle). We are seeking a talented, knowledgeable, and motivated Climate Action Officer (waste) to join our dedicated Environment and Waste Team.

 

 This role will be responsible for project delivery including:

  • Working with a wide range of groups across the county to reduce waste.
  • Devise and implement schemes to support and encourage the implementation of the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) including the improved participation in kerbside recycling services.
  • Undertake procurement and other steps necessary for project implementation.
  • Support the work of the Waste Management Team in achieving waste reduction objectives across a wide range of projects, providing expertise and practical assistance in their delivery.
  • Support the wider work of the Climate Action Team in achieving decarbonisation and environmental sustainability objectives across a wide range of projects, providing expertise and practical assistance in their delivery.
  • Drive householder engagement in waste minimisation and recycling through the application of creative engagement techniques, working with designers, communication officers and website technicians to achieve this.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of waste reduction, decarbonisation, and environmental sustainability schemes, taking ownership of outcomes and improvements, and preparing written reports.

You will be a self-motivated individual with excellent project management and development skills who is passionate about the environment and reducing the impact of climate change. You will have broad knowledge of waste in the UK.
