About the Team & Role

Are you passionate about archives, metadata and making collections more accessible for future generations?

Gloucestershire Archives is looking for a Community Cataloguing Archivist to help appraise, arrange and catalogue archive collections in both digital and analogue formats. Based at the Heritage Hub, you will play an important role in improving access to Gloucestershire’s records, supporting the long-term care of collections and helping people discover the stories they contain.

In this role, you will appraise and catalogue archives in all formats using Epexio collections management software, prepare collections for long-term storage and process new additions to our collections. You will also ensure records are properly protected, labelled and stored, by ingesting digital records to the digital store and locating analogue records in the strongrooms. You will train, support and supervise volunteers and project groups involved in this project.

About You

To thrive in this role, you will have a strong understanding of the appraisal and cataloguing of archives in both digital and analogue formats, together with an awareness of the challenges and opportunities involved in preserving and providing access to archival collections.

You will be organised, methodical and confident working with a wide variety of archival material. With excellent written and verbal communication skills, you will be able to explain complex information clearly and engagingly. Your flexible and proactive approach will contribute to the successful delivery of cataloguing objectives and deadlines.

About Us

For all your hard work, you will receive the following:

  • Annual Leave entitlement of 25.5 days rising to 30.5 days after 5 years’ continuous service
  • Career development and qualification opportunities
  • Supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone.
  • Cycle to Work scheme (Eligibility criteria and T&Cs apply)
  • Links to employee networks such as Prism (LGBT+) network and the Young Employees Network.
