About the Team

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s Protection Team plays a vital role in keeping communities safe. We work across the county to enforce the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, carrying out targeted inspections of premises and engaging directly with businesses to drive compliance. Through a balanced approach of enforcement and education, we help reduce risk, improve standards, and ensure people can live and work in safer environments.

About the role

This role is for a Business Fire Safety Advisor within our Protection Team, where you’ll play a key role in keeping Gloucestershire safe. Working on the engagement side, you’ll deliver fire safety events, provide clear and practical advice on the Fire Safety Order and related legislation, and carry out inspections of non-domestic premises to support enforcement. You’ll help identify high-risk premises to inform targeted, risk-based inspection programmes, represent the Service at meetings and initiatives, and offer expert guidance to colleagues and partners—making a real difference across the community every day.

You will be required to work across the county, requiring travel and a flexible approach to meet the needs of the role.

About You

Are you a proactive communicator who enjoys working with the local business community? We’re looking for someone who is passionate about community safety and committed to making a positive impact. You’ll bring a strong awareness of fire safety legislation, alongside excellent interpersonal skills and the confidence to engage with a wide range of audiences.

You will be a team player who can work collaboratively with colleagues and partner organisations to achieve shared outcomes, as well as someone who is comfortable delivering business engagement events and providing clear, practical advice. A commitment to personal development is essential, with a willingness to learn and grow within the role.

While a Level 3 Fire Safety qualification is desirable, we value attitude and potential just as highly. In return, we will support and invest in your development, helping you build the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.

About Us

For all your hard work, you will receive the following:

Flexible and agile working opportunities 25.5 days annual leave rising to 30.5 days after 5 years continuous service
